Dec. 3 1889 - Peter Newman donated an acre of land from his homestead for the ZionChurch property. Each male church member was to give two days labor clearing the land. Mr. Newman was appointed foreman.
Dec. 27 1892 - A meeting was held for the purpose of forming and establishing a Church Association in Skanee. Present at the meeting were Allen Elmblad, Carl Roselle, August Holmstrom, John Anderson, Brodt Johannes Anderson, August Lundberg, Adolph Melin, Peter Newman, and Walfrid Been. At a later meeting, they chose the name The Swedish Lutheran Church of Skanee and the constitution was to be that of the Augustana Synod. Three trustees- Allen Elmblad, Carl Roselle, Walfrid Bean, and six deacons - Daniel Newman, Charles Johnson, Allen Elmblad, Peter Rehn, and Axel Rylander were elected.
1893 - The Articles of the Association were acknowledged by the Deputy Secretary of State, August Lindholm
Feb. 25, 1893 - Plans and specifications were laid for the church building by Walfrid Been. The building had a capacity of 250. Steps were taken to secure means for building: Sixteen members offered to furnish logs to be sawed (a total of 19,000 ft. of hemlock). The Been and Bush Sawmill cut 22,000 ft. of hemlock without charge. A committee of six was appointed to take charge of construction: Inglebredgt Oust, Allen Elmbald, Axel Rylander, Andrew Anderson, Alfred Peterson, and August Gardberg.
Aug. 15, 1893 - Work of the foundation began.
1894 - Sunday School was started. Two superintendents were appointed to take charge of the two Sunday Schools held in the schoolhouses of the upper and lower settlements. A theological student from AugustanaCollege preached during the summer months, as well as taught the confirmation class one day a week. He would also hold classes in the Swedish language four days a week. His pay was $30 a month. G.E. Heindahl was the first student to hold this position.
1895 - Various plans for a steeple were submitted; Walfrid Been's were accepted.
1895 - Construction of the Church, except for some interior decorations, was completed. Anders Westrom made the pulpit, altar, and altar ring from local oak. There were 172 members.
Aug. 12, 1897 - The Church was formally dedicated.
Aug. 18, 1897 - The organ arrived, from the proceeds of play and a wealthy Chicago merchant. One summer a number of youngsters decided to put on the play to raise money for an organ. It was the first play the young folks in Skanee had ever seen so it was an exciting time. Tickets were 10 cents for adult and 5 cents for children and it was standing room only during the two nights it was given. Dick Waterman, the son of a wealthy Chicago merchant, and one of the play participants, sent the proceeds to his father in Chicago and aksed him to buy an organ for the church. The organ arrived, but no one knew how much extra Mr. Waterman had given to pay for it.
